Extract from the review of Culture bubbles on the feature film Jimmy’s Hall written when it was released in cinemas:

If the film Jimmy’s Hall stands as a whole, it is not an absolute pearl of achievement. Ken loach had been able to portray his Ireland much better in A wind rises (2006), Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

However, we have a good time with some very funny scenes. One thinks in particular of the time of the celebration of mass, interspersed with scenes located in the “Hall”, where the priest (Jim norton) preached to the people of the County.

Shooting secrets, anecdotes: did you know?

  • It is the 24th feature film of Ken loach.

This story also shows how the hierarchy
of the Church is ready to unite with economic power. It’s that that happened with Jimmy Gralton, and it still does today.
Church and State have become agents of repression ”.
