74th Cannes Film Festival: 24 Films For A Palme d’Or – YesICannes

The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place exceptionally from July 6 to 17, 2021 on the Croisette, has just unveiled its official selection. 24 films will be in the running for the Palme d’Or, including four directed by women.

The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the big annual meeting of the 7th art, had been canceled last year because of the Covid. Instead, the organizers had resigned themselves to publishing a list of 56 feature films that were part of its “2020 official selection”. A symbolic edition was even held in the fall with the screening of four films from this selection. This year, the Festival organizers have opted for an edition not from May 11 to 22 as usual, but from July 6 to 17.

The official selection revealed

In a little less than a month, the Festival jury, chaired by the American Spike lee, will have the heavy task of awarding the prizes. The official selection has just been unveiled in Paris by the President of the Festival, Pierre Lescure and his general delegate Thierry fremaux. Out of some 2,300 films – against the usual 1,800 – their choice fell on 61 films, all categories combined. This year, the “very international” selection is a little richer than the previous ones and many renowned filmmakers are in line to succeed the Palme d’Or 2019, Parasite from South Korean Bong Joon Ho.
