Below the Emirati and Spanish Planet awards, there is the Nobel Prize for Literature, awarded annually by the Swedish Academy and it is the most prestigious among those summoned in the world, and also, one of the highest paying.

At this time, the winner receives 10 million Swedish crowns, which translates into no less than 1.15 million dollars, or 23.43 million pesos. That is, the Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah was the one who received the juicy award.

Also in Sweden, the government recognizes each year with the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award to an author of children’s literature, illustrator or promoter of reading from anywhere in the world. The winner receives the amount of 5 million Swedish crowns, which means 578 thousand euros, just over 13.5 million pesos.

A little lower in terms of quantity, the International Ibsen Award (‘Den internajonale Ibsenprisen’) that honors a person, institution or organization that has brought new artistic dimensions to the world of drama or theater. The award was established by the Norwegian government in 2008 and is awarded around 300 thousand dollars, just over 6 million pesos.

The Cino del Duca de Francia International Prize is awarded annually and recognizes an author whose work, scientific or literary, has stood out in the field of humanism. It is endowed with about 300 thousand euros, about 7 million pesos.

As for Mexico, it also pays well for the Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish language. This one has a bag of 250 thousand dollars, just over 5 million pesos. It is delivered on November 11, the day Carlos Fuentes was born and, in addition to the financial amount, the winner receives a sculptural work designed by Vicente Rojo and a diploma. The Spanish-Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, in 2012; the Nicaraguan Sergio Ramírez, in 2014; or the Spanish Luis Goytisolo, in 2018, are some of its holders.

The same $ 250,000 awarded for the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize (‘Gish Prize award’), which is one of the most prestigious in the United States. It is not only a literary award, as it has also recognized personalities from the different arts. This year’s edition went to the American poet Sonia Sánchez and among her winners are the Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the actor Robert Redford and the also writers Arthur Miller and Isabel Allende.

The award Alfaguara contributes to the dissemination of literature in Spanish written on both sides of the Atlantic. Founded in 1964, it currently awards 175 thousand euros, just over 3.5 million pesos. The writer Pilar Quintana with ‘Los abismos’ was her last winner.

The award Katara from Arabic novel is sponsored by Qatar and was born in 2014. The winner’s prize rises to 200 thousand dollars (4 million pesos) and is one of the most important for its prize pool, since it totals 650 thousand (13 million pesos).
