Transgender singer Kim Petras says her next album will be ‘extreme pop music’

While the star recently chatted with People about her upcoming debut performance at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards, the 29-year-old singer also talked about her soon-to-be-released new album, which she says will be very focused on the world of pop.

In detailing that it is his first album since signing to Republic Records earlier this year, Petras revealed:

“I’m very excited because I’ve been an independent artist all this time, so this is my first official debut album. All those songs that I did before this were just a warm-up.”

“I am very passionate about this album, it is everything I always wanted to do, it is extreme pop music, which I love,” he continues. “I feel like now I’m brave enough to make outrageous songs that I never thought I could do, songs that I was limiting myself a bit of.”

“During the pandemic and during the confinement, I reminded myself what I wanted to do: pop music, which, for me, is the definitive escape from everything,” adds the German-born interpreter about the impact of the genre on the album .

“I can put my headphones on and put on a great pop song and just forget about my problems, my heartbreak or any of those things, and that’s what I want to do for people.”

The artist’s next LP, which has yet to receive a formal title or release date, follows after the singer burst into general success when she released a slew of pop-focused singles in recent years, including ” I Don’t Want It at All “and” Hillside Boys “as well as their basic anthem” Heart to Break. “

In June 2019, the young woman released her first album “Clarity”, which was shared under the musician’s BunHead label. The album, comprised of a total of 12 tracks, includes melodies loved by its loyal fans, such as “Clarity”, “Icy”, “Personal Hell”, “Do Me” and “Got My Number”.

That same year, Petras also released his album “Turn Off the Light” in October, which served as a Halloween-themed compilation.

Later in 2020, Petras released his summer bop “Malibu”, as well as his single “Reminds Me,” before releasing “Future Starts Now,” his French-inspired track released in August. Petras also performed the song during the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show in September.

Set to make her MTV EMA debut later this month, the singer says she is “super excited” to perform in what will mark a transgender artist’s first ever performance at the awards show. The performance, Petras adds, “will give more information about my album” and will see her perform a song “that no one has heard.”

And while the EMAs will take place in Hungary, a country that has been subject to recent anti-LGBTQ + laws, Petras says she is proud to be a transgender artist and wants to “represent who I am.”

The 2021 MTV EMAs, which will see Saweetie perform as host and performer, will feature other performances by Maluma and Måneskin, will air live on MTV in 180 countries on Sunday, November 14.
