A new edition of the MTV Video Music Awards was held on Sunday, August 30. Among the most special guests were: Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Maluma BTS, among others. This ceremony came with a series of safety regulations to avoid contagion of the coronavirus (COVID-19). One of them is that the show was held outdoors and no longer at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (New York) as planned.

The host of the ceremony was 27-year-old singer and actress Keke Palmer. The first performance of the night was The Weeknd with their song “Blinding Lights”, which became a trend thanks to Tik Tok. The venue for this show was the 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper in Manhattan.

The first winner of the night was Machine Gun Kelly with the song “Bloody Valentine” in the Best Alternative Song category.

American singer Miley Cyrus performed her song “Midnight Sky” live for the first time. The interpreter wore a black dress with a neckline on the leg while reliving the classic scene from the song “Wrecking Ball.”

Singer Taylor Swift first won the Best Directing category for the song “The Man.” This was also the first time she directed a video clip alone. The pop star did not show up for the ceremony, but sent a thank you video that was broadcast.

The Colombian interpreter Maluma won together with J Balvin in the category of Best Latin Song with the song “Que pena”. Only Maluma attended the presentation.

“Thank you to all the fans for your love and affection that you give me every day,” said Maluma in his acceptance speech, dressed in yellow and on a set surrounded by cars, from where his followers had just heard his “Hawaii” .

“It is incredible that from Medellín, Colombia, J Balvin and I have left, who made this song,” added the singer, recalling the collaboration of his compatriot in the piece.

Maluma thus mentioned J Balvin, one of the great absences of the night, since the “prince of reggaeton” had planned to attend the gala and act in it, but canceled his attendance a week before the big night.

Maluma’s song faced “China” by Anuel AA and in which Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, Karol G and J Balvin collaborated; “Yo Perreo Sola”, by Bad Bunny; “Amarillo”, by J Balvin; “Mamacita”, by the Black Eyed Peas, in which Ozuna and J Rey Soul collaborated; and “Tusa” by Karol G with the collaboration of Nicki Minaj.

Maluma has been made in this way with the only award for which he was nominated in this edition of the MTV VMA. In the Colombian’s performance at the gala, in which he sang his latest single, “Hawaii”, from an outdoor stage in Brooklyn, it was striking that the small audience present was watching from the cars, as if from a drive-in movie tried, and that the dancers behind him wore masks.

Popular South Korean group BTS performed for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony. They performed their new English single “Dynamite”. The group won four awards in the categories in which they were nominated. One in the Best Group, Best Choreography category, one in the Best K-pop song category, and the last one in the Best Pop category.

he Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” was named this Sunday the best video of the year at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards ceremony at a gala held in different parts of New York and marked by social distancing and masks imposed by the coronavirus.

”Once again, it is difficult to celebrate. Justice for Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor, ”said a muted The Weeknd, who referred to two of the deaths of African Americans at the hands of police officers that this year have shaken American society.

The singer, who appeared with makeup that simulated a bruised face, thus repeated the same speech he already gave when receiving the first of the two awards he received in New York, for best R&B video, also for “Blinding Lights.”
