The 22nd Latin Grammy Awards was full of emotional moments.
The event, which took place in Las Vegas after two years of confinement due to the pandemic, allowed music stars to meet in person again, so many forgot the healthy distance, between hugs and talks.
The highest moment of the night came when they recognized Rubén Blades’ career as Person of the Year; The award was presented to them by Residente, who gave him a speech that brought them to the brink of tears.
“You raised me with your music, you educated me with your lyrics, you opened the doors of your house for me when I had none. You advised me in the most complicated moments of my career, in which everyone is hiding, there you were, you gave me the most I needed, a guide, you are my mentor, my teacher, my friend, like a father to me. Thank you, Ruben, “said the rapper.
Rubén was also awarded in the category Salsa Album and Album of the Year, which he dedicated to all those who were nominated with him, and to his team.
The artist with the most awards from the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences was Camilo, who received four of the 10 nominations in which he participated: Pop Song, Tropical Song, Vocal Pop Album and Urban Fusion.
“I want to dedicate this award to Indigo (her son) so that when he is born he will feel proud of his father, I want to thank my parents who are there in the front row, to the Montaner family, to my team and especially to Colombia, because this album is a celebration of the sounds of my country ”, said Camilo.
Mon Laferte, who won a singer-songwriter album, became a trend on social networks for showing off her pregnancy in a charro outfit while singing “La mujer”, along with Gloria Trevi.
“I want to dedicate this award to my team. I love that we are women nominated in this category that was always all men,” celebrated the Chilean singer.
The Song of the Year award went to “Homeland and Life” which has been a standard in the fight against the economic and political situation in Cuba, especially in recent months. Its interpreters, including Descemer Bueno, El Funky, Gente De Zona sang it on stage dressed in white. Later, they dedicated the award to the Latin mothers of the world.
During the night, he also highlighted the tribute that Carlos Rivera paid to Armando Manzanero, who died in December 2020. He performed “Still” and “Esta Noche Vi Llover”, along with the Venezuelan Nella Rojas and the Colombian Paula Arenas.
Among the most applauded shows were Bad Bunny, Danna Paola, Gloria Estefan, who opened the night, and Maná with Alejandro Fernández; the great absentee was his father, Vicente Fernández, who has been hospitalized for three months and this time he was recognized for Album of ranchera music by A mis 80.
