(CNN Spanish) – After the controversy between J Balvin and Residente for the Latin Grammy nominations, Bad Bunny also had something to say.
“I can understand a point made by Balvin in a matter that yes, perhaps, they profit from the popularity of the reggaeton genre for ratings and should, perhaps, take more into account the productions, the songs that come out of reggaeton. But at the same time I’ve understood René for a long time and there are many things in which I agree with him, “said the Puerto Rican singer in a radio interview on the Alofoke Radio Show in the Dominican Republic.
Bad Bunny explained that artists like him, as well as Balvin, Anuel or Ozuna are usually in all the awards, so the Latin Grammy awards give him exposure and offer “a balance” to other artists and genres that do not have the exhibition. And while he showed his support for other artists, the reggaeton artist said that the nominations for his album “The Last World Tour” fell short.
“I think I should have received a little more nominations. For example, Balvin was nominated ‘Water’, that is, he was the one who was upset and he was nominated ‘Water’. I judge the Grammys not nominate ‘Water’ or the Nickelodeons, “he said.
Bad Bunny concluded by saying that the best thing about the song “Agua”. “The most c ***** of ‘Agua’ is the track that Tainy made, but I don’t consider it a song that says ‘heck, that deserves a Grammy,'” said the Puerto Rican singer.
J Balvin has not commented on the matter.
Both musicians have made several collaborations together. This summer they released “AM remix” together with Nio Garcia, and previously they worked together on songs such as “What do you pretend”, “The song”, “If your girlfriend leaves you alone”, among others.
The viral conflict between Balvin and Residente
At the end of September, Colombian singer Balvin (whose full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín) asked members of the urban genre not to attend the ceremony on November 18, hours after the Latin Grammy announced the nominees for the edition. 22 of the awards. Balvin indicated that the Latin Recording Academy did not value them and that they did not respect the urban genre.
“The Grammys don’t value us, but they need us. It’s my opinion and nothing against other genres because they deserve all the respect. But the trick is boring. We give them Rating but they don’t give us respect. (Pd. I’m nominated for Don’t come, I’m hurt), “read the tweet posted on J Balvin’s official account, which was deleted.
Balvin’s comment went viral after René Pérez Joglar, better known as Residente, published on his IGTV a video of almost 3 minutes in which he responded directly to the Colombian’s comments. The Residente video was later removed.
Balvin is nominated for the 22nd edition of the Latin Grammy in the categories song of the year and best urban song with “Agua” and another nomination in the category best performance of reggaeton with “Tu veneno”.
