Golden Globes 2021: Nomadland, Borat 2, Soul and diversity on the charts

Two major prizes for “Nomadland” by Chloé Zhao, two prizes for “Borat 2”, two prizes for “Soul” and rewards for Andra Day, Chadwick Boseman, Jodie Foster and Daniel Kaluuya: spotlight on the 78th Golden film list Globes.

The start of the ceremony, animated with energy and humor by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, set the tone for these 78th Golden Globes with the two first prizes of the evening awarded to Daniel Kaluyaa and John Boyega: an opening (long awaited) on diversity and commitment, celebrating all the voices of cinema.
The cinema awards ultimately reflect this dynamic, celebrating two African-American actors in the queen categories of dramatic interpretation (Andra Day and the late Chadwick Boseman), a committed scenario (The Chicago 7), the lively jazz of Soul (Best animated film and Best music), an Italian song (La Vie devant soi), Jane Fonda hailed for her life as an actress and activist and especially a director, Chloé Zhao.
The second award-winning filmmaker in the history of the ceremony, the American director of Chinese origin, big favorite of this awards season and most awarded personality of all time for one single film with Nomadland, thus continues its path to the Oscars, which began last fall with the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film, currently dated April 21 in our theaters and directed by Frances McDormand, follows the nomadic wandering of a woman in her van in her discovery of the expanses of the American West.

Also on the list are Rosamund Pike, Jodie Foster (third Golden Globe of his career), Minari and the unmistakable Sacha Baron Cohen, twice awarded for the return of Borat (who had already won him an award fourteen years ago), even if we regret, like him, the absence of the revelation Maria Bakalova among the laureates.

Finally, it should be noted that no French will unfortunately have shone this night, Tahar Rahim, Alexandre Desplat, Florian Zeller and Deux by Filippo Meneghetti leaving empty-handed from this ceremony in a unique format, alternating face-to-face between Los Angeles and New York and video.
