Star Trek Discovery: the series withdrawn from Netflix, season 4 will not be available

The Star Trek Discovery series has been withdrawn from Netflix, the French public will apparently not have access to season 4. Consolation prize, season 3 is available today on Blu-ray

While Star Trek Discovery returns this November 18 on Paramount + in the United States, we learn that ViacomCBS has broken its agreement with Netflix and that the series will no longer be available on the platform in the rest of the world. As of today, the first three seasons are no longer on Netflix and season 4 will not be available either.

ViacomCBS, which will launch Paramount + in Europe next year, has decided that the series will be exclusive to their platform, but voila, Paramount + is not expected to arrive in France just yet. The UK, Germany, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland will be among the first European markets to broadcast Discovery on Paramount + in 2022.

The platform is currently available in North America (except Canada which will still be able to see the series on CTV Sci-Fi Channel and Crave), Australia, Hungary, Russia and the Middle East.

This decision is clearly an arm of honor to international fans who have supported the series on Netflix. This reduces broadcast and forces viewers to subscribe to even more platforms. That said for France it is settled, the series will no longer be available at all. This will clearly boost piracy and won’t help the series.

Note that the series Star Trek Picard and Star Trek Lower Desk remain available on Amazon outside of the United States… .for the moment. Who knows, ViacomCBS might decide to do the same with these series.
