The Extraordinary Life of Louis Wain – The Initiative

The Outaouais Film Festival (October 21 to 29) is proud to announce that The Extraordinary Life of Louis Wain by Will Sharpe, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy, will be the closing film of its 22nd edition. “Based on a true story, the film is the electrifying tale of an extraordinary life set in enchanting images in a very dark time. He is served by exceptional performers ”insisted on Didier Farré, the director of the festival.

In the late 1800s, British artist Louis Wain adopted a stray cat, which would change his perception of this animal and inspire his art in a unique way. He will begin to paint anthropomorphic cats with large eyes, thus gaining popularity. Along with this artistic journey, he will begin to develop psychiatric symptoms that will be associated with schizophrenia. In this whirlwind, he will try to better understand his life, but also his deep love for his wife Emily Richardson.

“I just hope that the project is successful in making people who feel different or experience the world in a way that is not considered ‘normal’ understand that there is a place for them,” said Benedict. Cumberbatch. For her part, Claire Foy clarified: “Playing Emily was like taking a good hot bath, especially if you compare her to other characters that I have played. […] She embodied magic and pleasure with others. It was a pleasure to dive into his world ”.

Will Sharpe is a British actor, writer and director of Japanese descent. He is a veteran of the Cambridge Footlights and the Royal Shakespeare Company. With Tom Kingsley, he co-directed the feature film Black Pond which received a BAFTA nomination for its outstanding debut. The duo also co-directed The Darkest Universe and Sharpe created, wrote and directed the Flowers series for Channel 4.

This year, the 22nd FFO will take place only at Cinema 9. The ticketing system will now be Omniterm, at Cinema 9. The films of the festival will be identified so as not to be confused with the regular programming of Cinema 9. The admission price remains unchanged $ 8 per person. Exceptionally, there will be no possibility of a global sale of 6 films as in the past.
