Joker nominated in eleven categories at the BAFTA Awards (including best film and best actor) |

After leaving the ceremony of Golden globes with the prize for Best Actor and Best Original Soundtrack in pocket, Joker takes the road to England for the traditional British Academy of Films and Television Arts. An institution in the filmed arts, or more simply, the UK’s largest film and television awards show.

Last year, unlike other more American competitions, the BAFTA had largely shunned Black panther by not following the craze of Oscars or some Golden globes for the movie Ryan coogler. For his part, Joker will have largely caught the eye of the jury, collecting eleven nominations in many categories. In the heap, we will find:

  • The Best Film award, where Joker will face 1917, The irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Parasite, competition overarmed and difficult to access.
  • The Best Director award for Todd phillips, in front of Sam mendes for 1917, Martin scorsese for The irishman, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Bong Joon-Ho for Parasite, in other words, the exact replica of the applicants for the Best Film category, we cannot say that the competition lacks consistency.
  • The award for Best Adapted Screenplay, facing The irishman of Steven zaillian, Jojo rabbit of Taika Waititi, Little women of Greta Gerwig, Where The Two Popes ofAnthony mccarten.
  • The prize for Best Actor, a chestnut tree in almost all award ceremonies. Joaquin phoenix finds himself selected alongside Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Adam driver for Marriage story, Taron Egerton for Rocketman, and Jonathan pryce for The Two Popes.
  • The award for Best Music, with 1917, Jojo rabbit, Little women and, hey, hey, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
  • The award for Best Global Distribution, an award that once again sees the names of Marriage story, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Two Popes and the incursion of The Personal History of David Copperfield.
  • The prize for Best Photography against 1917, The irishman, Le Mans ’66 and The Lighthouse – what an incredible year of cinema, nonetheless.
  • The prize for the Best Editing, with The irishman, Jojo rabbit, Le Mans ’66 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
  • The prize for the Best Scenery, with 1917, The irishman, Jojo rabbit and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
  • No selection at the price of the best costumes, which would be almost ironic.
  • On the other hand, yes for the price of the Best Make-up and the Best Hairstyles, with 1917, Bombshell, Judy and Rocketman.
  • The prize for Best Sound (we imagine, the mixing and sound design all at once) alongside 1917, Le Mans ’66, Rocketman and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – a strange overview of Hollywood rustling, with the noises of pan pan, the noises of vroum vroum, the noises of singer and the noises of piou piou, the English have a fine ear, what do you want.
  • And for the chocolate medal, the prize for the Best Special Effects will welcome Avengers: Endgame, in front of 1917, The Lion King, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The irishman. In other words, three films Disney and one Martin scorsese, this category could therefore be renamed “The revenge of Bob Iger“.

With impressive production quality throughout the past year, it is very possible that Joker only wins the usual prizes for the talent of Joaquin phoenix and Hildur Guðnadóttir, facing films that are each better than the next. Being nominated alongside such films remains a small victory for comic book adaptations – note in this regard that Joker is the first film born of sequential art to be selected for BAFTA for the Best Film and Best Actor awards.
