Lack of diversity

Four years after the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, the BAFTA awards have also come under fire for their lack of diversity. No person of color is among the finalists in 2020.

After the nominations were announced, the hashtag #BAFTAsSoWhite hit social media, accompanied by criticism of the lack of diversity.

A report, published in 2018, showed that 94% of those nominated for BAFTAs were white. Ninety-two percent of the finalists for the Actresses and Supporting Actors categories were white.

All of the actresses and actors nominated this year in all four categories (lead and supporting roles) are white people.

Critics denounce the fact that two white actresses garnered two nominations each. Margot Robbie (for two supporting roles in Scandal and Once upon a time in … Hollywood) and Scarlett Johansson (lead role for The story of a marriage and supporting role for Jojo) while no actress of color is a finalist.
