The Oscars ceremony will have a site in Paris for candidates stuck by the pandemic

CINEMA – For candidates who could not receive their Oscar in person in Los Angeles, the prestigious film awards ceremony will set up dedicated sites in Great Britain and Paris, the AFP from sources close to the organizers

The presenters of the ceremony will be as expected in a station in Los Angeles but the producers of the Oscars “are planning something special for the British site”, described as “central hub”, said one of these sources.

A “satellite” site in Paris

Another “satellite” site is planned in Paris, added another source, confirming information from certain specialized media.

The culmination of the Hollywood awards season, the Oscars had been strongly criticized after the refusal of the organizers to allow candidates who would not or could not make the trip to receive their prize via the internet.

Some foreign artists would therefore have had to bypass or even brave potential travel restrictions and go through quarantine, otherwise they would be completely absent from the party.

The plans have been revised and satellite links are now planned for those who could not be present in Los Angeles or on the British site, whose location has not been disclosed.

However, the organizers wish to limit as much as possible these interventions via the internet which have aroused criticism and disappointment during other ceremonies upset by the coronavirus, in particular the Golden Globes at the end of February.

This year, eight British actors and one director are on the list of nominations, as well as French author Florian Zeller (selected for the screenplay of “The Father”, the adaptation of his play), Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, the Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova (“Borat 2 ″) and her South Korean counterpart Youn Yuh-Jung (“ Minari ”).

The red carpet maintained

Organizers, however, are still urging shortlisted artists to come in person to Los Angeles if given the opportunity. They also recommend that all guests self-isolate for ten days, refraining from exposing themselves to crowds and going to gyms or restaurants.

The 93rd Oscars ceremony, on April 25, will include a reduced-wing “red carpet” to take into account the health imperatives related to Covid-19, while the candidates will follow one another inside Union Station category by category .

Other elements of the show, which is expected to feature live performances, will be held in the Dolby Theater which traditionally hosts the Oscars in the heart of Hollywood.
