Postponed for two months because of the pandemic, the 2021 Oscars ceremony took place in Los Angeles on the night of April 25-26. But not in video as was the case with the Golden Globes but in face-to-face.
A year after the triumph of Joker and Parasite, who are the winners of this edition like no other? Nomadland, Judas and The Black Messiah, Mank, Sound Of Metal, Promising Young Woman, Minari, les Sept de Chicago, Drunk, Le Blues de Ma Rainey, Tenet, Soul, Father ?
No surprise (and it’s deserved), Nomadland (social drama against the backdrop of a road movie) signed a historic treble collecting both the Oscar for best film and best director for Chloe Zhao (only the second Oscar in history for a woman after Kathryn Bigelow with Minesweepers in 2010 and the first for an Asian director) and Best Actress (the third in the career of Frances mcdormand).
Anthony hopkins is crowned best actor at 83 years old (and becomes the oldest actor ever to receive an award in this category) for The Father directed by the French Florian Zeller who was awarded the best adapted screenplay.
Another sacred Frenchman, Nicolas Becker who recovers the statuette for the best sound with Jaime Baksht, Michelle Couttolenc, Carlos Cortés and Phillip Bladh for the brilliant and poignant Sound Of Metal with Riz Ahmed.
Drunk and Soul were also Oscar winners (best foreign film and best soundtrack), as did David Fincher’s Mank. When to Tenet, it is Christopher Nolan’s third film to win the Oscar for Best Special Effects after Interstellar and Inception.
