During the past three months, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples has been eerily silent on issues of importance to Texas Agriculture.
“If you want to talk about driving up food costs, slashing tax revenues, and damaging our economy, then Leo Berman’s bill is exactly what you want,” Gilbert said. “I cannot imagine someone proposing something so irresponsible or damaging to Texas agriculture.”
“These men and women help Texas grow food not just for our state, but for the rest of the nation.”

Cotton, hay, sweet potatoes, and peanuts all declined in production during Todd Staples’ tenure as Agriculture Commissioner, yet he’s done little to help improve conditions for these farmers.
Todd Staples’ continuing refusal to make his tax returns public raises interesting questions about how the incumbent makes his money outside of the salary he draws from public office.
Gilbert said he was sick and tired of politicians adding to their own resources instead of looking after the farm people of Texas…. the family farm has been neglected, and cotton farming has slipped to No. 3 in the world. … the nation used to be No. 1 in cotton production.
Last night, voters in the Texas Democratic Primary made me their nominee for Commissioner of Agriculture. I’m humbled by their support and excited by the opportunity.
