OUR OPINION: Earle, Uribe, Gilbert best choices for Democrats
San Angelo Standard-Times | February 17, 2010
Agriculture commissioner — East Texas rancher Hank Gilbert knows the issues better than his opponent, entertainer and 2006 independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman.
Gilbert, who unsuccessfully ran for ag commissioner in 2006, most notably recognizes the importance of water issues and the need for — and difficulty of — crafting a statewide water policy.
He pledges to put greater emphasis on marketing Texas agriculture products. And many ranchers and other landowners no doubt appreciate his leadership in opposing the Trans-Texas Corridor.
