Hank Speaks To Mid-Cities Democrats

On Thursday (October 23), Hank spoke to the Mid-Cities Democrats at the Sheet Metal Worker’s Union Hall in Euless.

Hank addressed transportation, education, and other issues before the crowd of about 45 Democrats.

He also talked about rebuilding the party and how he would do that as Democrats’ nominee for governor in 2010.

“We are going to begin rebuilding the Texas Democratic Party right here in the Metroplex. This is a pivotal area in the Primary as well as the General Election,” he said. “We have to put several Democrats back in Statewide leadership,” he said, noting the importance of having Democrats on the Legislative Redistricting Board in 2011. “We need a mandate in the House, the senate, and our courthouses,” he said. “This is a pivitol time in the history of our party. We must rebuild our party and turn Texas blue,” he said.

Mentions of Hank’s vocational education program, his position on commuter rail for major metropolitan areas, and several other positions drew applause from those gathered.

Hank also took several questions from the audience, including one on tuition deregulation.

“We are no longer going to stand for middle class kids being priced out of a college education,” Gilbert told the crowd in response to a question on tuition deregulation. “We know, as Democrats, when you deregulate anything, that is when they get you,” he said.
